Due to Covid restrictions this year, the Missing Alexis Board met in August to discuss plans for moving forward with the annual NKY Walk to Remembe`r for pregnancy & infant loss awareness. Unfortunately, with the recent rise in cases, and the governor's newest restrictions on large gatherings, we have had to modify Walk plans for this year.
This walk has been held for well over a decade to honor and remember anyone whose life has been touched by the loss of a baby through miscarriage, molar or ectopic pregnancy, prematurity, stillbirth, S.I.D.S. or any other form of antenatal or neonatal death. The Walk is designed to honor and remember those babies taken from their families far too soon.
This year, instead of one large walk gathering, between Thursday, October 1st, and Sunday, October 4th, families will be given the opportunity at their convenience to participate in their own 1.3 mile memorial walk at the Boone County Arboretum at Central Park. Pre-registered babies will have a Memory Mile Marker with your little one's information placed along the trail for you to take pictures and collect as a keepsake. Pictures can be sent to Missing Alexis, and will be compiled into a "virtual walk" video and published on the website. All Memory Mile markers are FREE OF CHARGE this year. While any family is welcome to participate, in order to have a Memory Marker placed on the trail, families MUST pre-register their little's one name by Sunday, September 20th to allow adequate time for production (see link below.)
While we are greatly disappointed that our annual Walk cannot happen in the format we usually plan for, we feel that this is the best option to keep our families safe, and still honor those little ones we carry within our hearts.
HOW IT WILL WORK:
1. PRE-REGISTER by Sunday, September 20th! Begin by registering your little one's name(s) at: https://forms.gle/9UrfSgLqgwC7SpME7
You will receive a confirmation that your information has been registered. If you do not receive this email, please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
2. SWEATSHIRTS, T-SHIRTS AND LONG-SLEEVED T'S- Families can still order Walk-wear. Walk apparel will be sold via a link (coming soon!), and will ship directly to your home in time for the 10/01/20 - 10/04/20 timeframe (so you can choose to wear your apparel during your walk!)
3. Between 10/01/20 and 10/04/20, you may gather your walking crew and take your Loop Trail Walk to Remember! Look for your little one's Memory Mile Marker. Stop and take lots of pictures (don't forget to send one to us!) and then collect your marker as a keepsake from this year's Walk! Walk markers that have not been collected by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, 10/04/20 will be recollected by our volunteers and families will be contacted for alternate pickup.
As always, the Walk is free to all participants, but donations are welcome.
